THE LANDSCAPE GALLERY

My ceramic landscapes are produced after lengthy research into the actual landscape to which they refer and a visit to that region will usually preempt production of any new landscape series. My appreciation of a particular landscape is augmented by an understanding of the geological processes that brought it about.

"Landforms of Australia appear to be essentially the result of tectonic pressures moving enormous earth mass upward during which it is acted upon by constant forces weathering it down. All this happens over an unimaginable time frame I call Geological Dreaming  which underpins my awe and inspiration.
The mantle of vegetation currently covering these formations , our fragile layer of life and habitat is our cause for concern as the bulldozers, representing unbridled overdevelopment, tear away at the land. My intention is to uphold the land's majesty, beauty  and the delicate interconnections it contains."

These landscapes are an example of multiple referencing and bring together over a decade of clay and glaze experimentation with my passion for the land, the traditions of Australian landscape painting, and Oriental arts of painted scrolls and folding screens.
