With my ceramic sculpture I pay tribute to the spirit of the place marked by these sculptures.
The works often comprise geometric considerations alongside organic as this brings nature into contrast with rational elements of culture. I appreciate the sharply juxtaposed straight edge or corner with the ragged or ruggedness of an uncontained form. This is an indicator of our place in the great scheme.
The works are often evocative of past civilisations, not an uncommon theme amongst ceramic artists, as the memories of these bygone eras have crumbled back into and are held by the earth, the very material of our claymaking.
Fabricating individual components (which are assembled after firing) allows me to work on a scale otherwise logistically or technically problematic.
