About Ceramic LandscapesThe process of producing these works begins with a field trip into the land, followed by a period of research that takes in Geology and current ecological concerns and relevant indigenous history. The landscape is photographed, drawn on paper and reinterpreted in clay in a 2 dimensional format.
![]() When the clay has dried a complex surfacing process begins. The glazes, which are often totally different in appearance to the finished product, are applied. There is an element of calculated guesswork at this point and it is a multiple surfacing process.
Finally each panel is placed flatly in the kiln for firing to 1300˚C. The finished pieces are mounted on folded acrylic for wall presentation.
These works are unique and original; although the artist may treat a similar composition twice or even several times there is no duplication. |
